Meet The Team

As a marine biologist I was drawn to Belize for it's reef and fell in love with the people and Placencia. When I asked my brother if he wanted to partner on something he suggested Bird Island and off I went to make it happen.

A commercial pilot by profession, Belize wasn’t even on my radar until my sister purchased a property there. When she approached me about buying something together, I mentioned Bird Island, and she ran with the idea, turning it into a reality. And here we are.

As the partner of co-owner Judy McVeigh I didn't have much choice than to join the team LOL. Joking aside Judy and I own a hotel in Placencia Village and Bird Island was a great addition to the portfolio allowing us to elevator our guest experience greatly. 

Dora joined us four years ago and has done an exceptional job managing our village hotel, making her a natural choice to also manage Bird Island. With all the moving parts involved in organizing guest stays on the island, Dora is highly organized, incredibly helpful, and consistently ensures everything runs smoothly. Our guests absolutely rave about her.

Sarra has been a wonderful addition to our housekeeping team. While she usually spends her weeks working at our hotel, she’s always happy to lend a hand getting Bird Island sparkling clean and ready to welcome our guests. It’s the behind-the-scenes care from people like Sarra that helps make your island stay so special.

Where would we be without Estellita. Without Estellita the house would fall apart. She ensures that you rooms are ready to the highest standard when you arrive and is around to answer questions, directions or simply extra pool towels. 

Our newest team member is Ronald! Joining us to help take care of maintenance, the grounds, and all those important things in between, Ronald brings plenty of experience to the island. As an experienced tour guide and boat captain, he’s just as comfortable on the water as he is keeping things running smoothly on land. You may even meet Ronald as your captain for your transfer to and from Bird Island!

We are lucky to offer guests the opportunity to contract a Belizean trailblazing Chef. We are honored to call Chef Minor a friend. He is known for his commitment to healthy living, wellness and offer our guests a great experince. He is the mastermind behind Fuzed Bistro Organic Products, where he offers a premium line of products made with authentic Belizean spices and ingredients.

Thurman offers our guests a fantastic day out on the water fishing. We consistently hear nothing but great things about him, and let’s just say, guests who have tried other tours often come back empty-handed. With Thurman, a fresh fish dinner is almost always on the menu, and during lobster season, he makes sure you enjoy a true seafood feast. His wife also prepares a delicious Belizean lunch, which our guests rave about.
